Devlog 9: Writing

Continuing on from last week, inventory system is still somewhat broken, but it’s most likely because I am overcomplicating things (again). But it’s still functional, and not broken per se as in it’s unlikely to break on its own, but it is a bit finnicky with removing items and updating them accordingly in the hotbar.

Other than that, there is now a system in place where you can write data to floppy disks, and it should allow for keeping track of what is on each disk even though they’re not unique. The original idea was to create an entirely new scene tree for each disk and save that to the user’s folder, but that would allow the player to edit it outside of the game and still didn’t really allow for each one to be unique unless you’re creating and instancing multiple scenes simulteneously which is not practical.

If you don’t use Godot you have no idea what any of that means. It’s ok, you are not expected to understand this.

As for art, I’ve contacted a local artist and I should be getting some character art soon, but there’s no deadline on it and it’s not very high on my list right now. Getting a proper tileset that looks good is more important. Making a fun game is the most important.

Game of the Week

I keep the denizens of my colony in Patron happy. They collect wood and stone and metal and herbs to survive for the long winter, and I get to watch them from above as their sky daddy and tell them what to do. Very comfy.
